AI Policy

Last updated 29 October 2026

If an Arjade Productions product uses AI we will label how it has been used. We don't use AI for the creative work at the heart of what we make. We do use it, like many small businesses, to help with administrative and technical work.

Since its founding in 2002, Arjade Productions has paid more than $15,000 to artists and writers for their artwork, commissions, fiction and articles, and supporting creators remains central to how we work.

The creative work

The creative side of Arjade Productions, the stories, games, worlds and characters, comes from people. That is where our creative effort goes, and it is not something we hand over to AI.

Everything else

Running a small creative business involves a lot of work that isn't creative: administration, organisation, technical jobs, promotion and keeping this website going. AI is one of the tools we may use for that work, alongside many others.

The artists and writers we work with

Arjade Productions works with artists and writers from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures. Creators work in their own ways, and some of the artists we commission use AI as a part of their process, but not as the art form itself. What we publish is their own finished work.

Labelling

Where AI has played a meaningful part in a product, we will say so where appropriate, usually on its shop page, so you can make your own choice.

A complex issue

AI in creative work is a complicated and fast-moving subject, and people hold strong and sincere views on all sides. These are some of the things we have weighed up.

Consent and credit. Many AI systems were trained on the work of writers and artists who were not asked, credited or paid. Many creators feel strongly about that, and their concerns deserve to be taken seriously while the law and the industry work out what is fair.

Livelihoods and creativity. There are understandable worries about what AI means for people who make a living from their craft, and about the value of work where a person makes the choices and puts something of themselves into it. That value is a big part of why our own creative work stays with people.

The environment. The data centres that train and run AI systems use a great deal of electricity and water. That cost isn't visible to the person using the tool, but it is real, and it is one reason to use AI thoughtfully rather than by default.

Opportunity and access. Opportunity in the creative industries has never been shared equally. Training, software, equipment, time to practise and access to paid work are much easier to come by in some places and communities than others. For some creators, AI tools help narrow that gap, letting them compete for work and share stories and perspectives that might otherwise go unheard. We work with creators from many backgrounds, and we respect the choices they make in their own practice.

A long history of borrowing. Questions about copying didn't begin with AI. Artists have always learned from one another, and the creative world has long lived with grey areas, from unlicensed fan art to paint-overs, traced references and closely copied compositions. Where learning ends and taking begins has never been a simple line, and we think it is fair to hold every kind of use, old or new, to the same standard.

Weighing all of this, we don't think there is a simple answer, and this page isn't here to take a side. It sets out how we choose to work: people at the centre of the creative work, support for the creators we hire and the choices they make in their own practice, and openness with you about our products.

How we apply this policy

This is a statement of our intentions, applied in good faith and with common sense. It covers the work Arjade Productions makes, not the AI features that platforms such as YouTube and Instagram add to everything posted on them, which are outside our control.

As the technology and the conversation around it change, we will keep reviewing our approach and update this page to match. If you have a question about it, you are welcome to ask through the contact form.
